The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies is concerned with national security and the education of military systems. The goal of the course is to help students comprehend how a nation's civilians control its defence policies and strategies. Students who are interested in serving our country in various defence capacities should take this course. Geopolitics, military geography, defence economics, nuclear policies, and other topics are all covered. It also involves challenges to our interests in national security and defence on the domestic and strategic fronts. The course seeks to support student growth in military education and national security. The Indian Army, Air Force, Education Corps, Defence Journalism, Civil Services, and Public Service Commission all have a variety of career openings.

This course provides a broad understanding of national security, the operation of international relations, and the various techniques used by nation-states to resolve issues of peace and security. The course focuses on relating such techniques to India's security and understanding previous approaches to India's national security under various regimes. The course instils and imparts knowledge on defence/strategic affairs, thereby developing the intellectual aptitude required for young minds interested in pursuing a career in defence/security. Finally, it seeks to develop a pool of trained planners, analysts, strategists, and thinkers who are experts in this field, as well as to encourage young men and women to join the armed forces as a career.
