The young and vibrant PG and Research Department of Microbiology is packed up with a modernised well-equipped laboratory. 500 volumes of books and 15 periodicals and journals (National & International) are available in the department. Globally microbiology has grown by leaps and bounds. The unprecedented technology unraveled the mystery of humans and other genomes which brings tremendous benefits for mankind in curing diseases, cleaner and better environment to live in. Microbiology students get positioned as Food Analysts, Water Analysts, Microbiologists, Pharmaceutical and Beverage Industries in India and abroad. The department provides placement assistance for rural students.
Objectives:
To provide a platform to explore the opportunities and works undertaken in the field of biological sciences.
Infrastructure:
The lab is well designed with the latest modern types of equipment like UV Double beam spectrophotometer, Electrophoresis, Flame Photometer, PCR, Gel Doc Unit, etc., Isolation and separation of genetic materials and protein can be done and viewed, and gel conjugation is also done. Facilities are available with necessary pieces of equipment for quantitative estimation of biologically important macromolecules, carbohydrates, protein, and nucleic acids, secondary metabolites like alkaloids, tannins, and polyphenolics. Students are trained to produce cheese, ethanol, and citric acid from the microbes. Quantitative and qualitative studies of soil Microflora, their antagonistic effect, and antimicrobial activities are studied.
