The department of physics was established in 1998 running with B.Sc, M.Sc, M.Phil, and Ph.D. physics. Department of physics having highly qualified faculty members and state-of-the-art infrastructure is now imparting quality programs. The Department has been regularly producing university ranks in UG and PG. The main objectives of the department are to impart knowledge in Nanotechnology, Material Science, Electronics, etc.
Physics as a science involves the study of force, motion, and energy. It is one of the oldest disciplines of science which opens doors to various career opportunities in the field of research and development, climate and weather change, military, healthcare, etc. It is one of the most fundamental aspects of science which is about studying universe behavior with career opportunities for students not only in engineering but in other fields also such as nuclear physics, meteorology, astronomy, etc. A student of physics studies atomic and molecular physics, thermal physics, statistical physics, and many more subjects from which they can choose their area of interest for research. A career in Physics requires one to have strong logical thinking skills, problem-solving capability, and a methodical approach.
Opportunities
-
Physics can open doors in the field of teaching in schools\colleges. In order to teach in school, one can do B.Ed. degree after B.Sc. and/or M.Sc. in Physics and for a lectureship in college, one has to write the UGC-NET examination after post-graduation studies in physics.
-
A research program in physics allows one to study, and conduct research and experiments in various domains such as nuclear physics, meteorology, geophysics, etc. Individuals can pursue a doctorate degree in their area of interest after post-graduation. For your research (Ph.D.), you need to have a guidance mentor, who can guide you in your research process and assist you in publishing research papers.
-
Along with the doctors, physicists create, review and maintain medical technologies and types of equipment in the hospitals. Also, they are hired in the sectors of radiology, radiation oncology, and nuclear medicine
Astronomers study universe behavior and objects in it. A bachelor’s and a master's degree in physics or astrophysics are required to study astronomy, followed by a doctorate degree. Astronomers have the opportunity to work in NASA or other federal agencies such as ISRO etc
Laboratory facilities
The department has very unique and well-equipped individual Laboratories for first UG and allied, second, and third-year students. UG students are specially trained with skill-oriented workshop practices at the graduate level. A well-equipped PG laboratory for general and electronics experiments is the pride of the department. M.Sc. students are given hands-on training with advanced experiments (both general and electronics), and they also do research projects as part of the curriculum
Research work
The faculty comprising of Ph.D. and M.Phil holders are equally passionate about their teaching and research. Faculty members carry out both theoretical and experimental research in various fields such as Crystal Growth, Crystallography, Thin Films, Nano Technology, and Non-Linear Dynamics.
